Parlare, 1996

A photo and video installation. A monitor embedded in a wall displays an 8-minute video loop with audio, an image of the artist trying to pronounce Italian verbs through the process of syllable structure. A red wall covered in various black and white details and textures of furniture, coverings, and accessories from domestic objects , images of the artist pronouncing syllables of Italian verbs, and reproduced images of Italian women. The photographs are displayed in 8”x10” and 5”x7” gold frames. They are hung with various lengths of brass wire from brass cuphooks. The images of the women are collected passport photos, which were documentation of their trips to Canada and back to Italy. Some women are alone, others are documented with their children.
